What We Offer

Research and Evaluation

NCDVTMH’s research utilizes qualitative, quantitative, and survivor-centered methods to build knowledge on the complex connections among domestic and sexual violence (DSV), trauma, mental health, and substance use.

Research on Mental Health and Substance Use Coercion

Many survivors experience coercion specifically related to their mental health or use of substances as part of a broader pattern of abuse and control, tactics known as mental health and substance use coercion. Beginning with its 2014 report on experiences of Mental Health and Substance Use Coercion among National Domestic Violence Hotline callers, NCDVTMH has been at the forefront of expanding the knowledge and understanding of these pervasive forms of abuse.

Accessible, Culturally Relevant, Trauma-Informed (ACRTI) Evaluation Toolkit

NCDVTMH has created a comprehensive toolkit to support domestic and sexual violence (DSV) programs in evaluating the extent to which their services utilize an ACRTI approach. The toolkit includes three new measures: the Trauma-Informed Outcomes Scale (TIOS), Trauma-Informed Capacity Assessment (TICA), and the Trauma-Informed Practices for Staff Scale (TIPSS), plus guidance on usage for each scale. This toolkit can be used in tandem with Tools for Transformation: Becoming Accessible, Culturally Responsive, and Trauma-Informed Organizations and its accompanying Implementation Support Guides.
