Literature Review: Intimate Partner Violence, Substance Use Coercion, and the Need for Integrated Service Models

Background

In conjunction with the 2019 federal Technical Expert Meeting, this literature review provides 1) an overview of the current research on substance use coercion, including the range of substance use coercion tactics and the impact of substance use coercion on survivors and their children; and 2) information on published research on the prevalence and effectiveness of integrated services addressing substance use and IPV. Findings suggest that integrated services uniquely benefit survivors and are associated with decreased substance use and experiences of violence.
