This fact sheet provides a comprehensive overview of current, vetted research on Partner-Inflicted Brain Injuries (PIBI) and their associations with survivors’ mental health and substance use. While PIBIs are common among survivors, they are often unaddressed when survivors have concurrent mental health- or substance use-related challenges, as the effects of PIBIs can be confused for signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use concerns. This fact sheet also provides information on how to support survivors experiencing PIBIs along with mental health or substance use concerns.
