This module informs, borrows from, and expands upon Modules 1-4 of the core curriculum to offer an accessible, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed (ACRTI) approach to working with survivors who are experiencing emotional distress, mental health crises, or psychiatric disabilities. This module asks us to
explore our framework for thinking about mental health and to explore our understandings of crisis and distress. We talk about people and the complex courses of their lives, not about categories, labels, or diagnoses. In fact, we deliberately avoid focusing on specific mental health diagnoses. The goal is to
ensure our services are fully accessible to survivors with a range of mental health needs by developing our own capacities and reconsidering structures and barriers that prohibit survivor access to our resources.
